Actualization of the P5 Program at SMA Edu Global Medan with the Theme of Local Wisdom: Introducing the Traditions and Ceremony of a Malay Traditional Wedding

As part of the P5 (Pancasila Student Profile) program, SMA Edu Global Medan recently held an event that celebrated local wisdom by introducing the traditions and ceremonial aspects of a traditional Malay wedding. This initiative aimed to foster a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage among students and teachers while promoting mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning.

The event began with a traditional welcoming dance, known as the Tari Persembahan, performed by a group of students. This dance is an essential part of Malay culture, symbolizing respect and hospitality to honored guests. Following this, the ceremony showcased various significant elements of a Malay wedding, allowing students to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of their local culture.

The sequence of events included the Berarak procession, where the groom’s entourage was welcomed with traditional music and decorated umbrellas, signifying protection and honor.

One of the most anticipated moments was the Akad Nikah, the solemnization of the marriage, where symbolic elements of Malay tradition were explained. This was followed by the Tepung Tawar ceremony, in which family elders sprinkled scented water and rice flour on the couple’s hands as a gesture of blessing and well-wishes.

The event concluded with a traditional Makan Berhadap, a communal dining experience where guests, including students and teachers, enjoyed a meal while adhering to traditional customs. This practice highlights the values of togetherness and gratitude deeply rooted in Malay culture.

Through this program, students and teachers at SMA Edu Global Medan gained valuable insights into Malay wedding traditions, strengthening their cultural identity and appreciation. The event not only educated participants about the intricacies of Malay customs but also served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating Indonesia’s diverse heritage.

The successful execution of this P5 program emphasized the importance of integrating cultural education within the school curriculum, ensuring that students continue to embrace and respect their local traditions while preparing for a globally connected future.

What Are They Saying About Edu Global School

PARENT

Jaya Mulyadi

" Alhamdulillah, both of my sons have graduated from Edu Global School Medan with very satisfactory results. My first son was accepted into Brawijaya University, while my second son was accepted into the international class of Institut Teknologi Bandung, School of Business Management. These achievements would not have been possible without the guidance of the teachers, who are patient and excellent in educating their students."

PARENT

Eka Mayasari, S.Sos.

"The reason we chose this school is because we were looking for a school with small class system. At Edu Global School, each class consists of not more than 20 or even less than 20 students.

There are many things I like about this school. One of them is the Overseas program, where the students have the chance to learn and experience life abroad, even if they’re not necessarily planning to study overseas. They get a glimpse of what it’s like to live and study in another country. So far my daughter and I feel comfortable and being cared for in EGS."

PARENT

"Alhamdulillah, I see that my child can learn well at EGS. Children are guided by teachers who are able to facilitate and adjust to students' abilities, hobbies and talents, making them more directed. Teachers are close to parents, making it easier for parents to consult and discuss their children's achievements and development. Students do not need to bring many books, because EGS provides guidebooks (worksheet) according to the lessons needed. Hopefully this school will be more successful with more advanced facilities."

PARENT

Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum.
